Brave Rock is enrolled in the Blood Tribe from Alberta, Canada, and his wife is Salish. They have three children together.

“It may seem discriminatory, it may have that concept, but we have to remind our children, ‘you know something, if you marry outside the tribe or marry a non-Native, your children may not have those resources.” As for his own children, “we tried to remind them that if you marry outside, there may be problems,” he said.

Whether or not his advice was the cause, his children all married other Native Americans, and his grandchildren are all enrolled in the tribes of one of their parents.
